Rapid Response Microgrant Program

Because no family should face a bleeding disorder crisis alone.

Living with a bleeding disorder like hemophilia or von Willebrand disease can bring unexpected challenges, medical emergencies, missed work, and financial strain. When a crisis hits, families often need help fast.

The Rapid Response Microgrant Program provides small, flexible grants to families affected by bleeding disorders who are facing urgent, short-term financial hardship. Whether it’s a sudden hospital visit, a missed paycheck due to a bleed, or the cost of getting to a treatment center, we’re here to help bridge the gap with compassion and speed.

How the Program Works

  • One‑time assistance for a defined crisis

  • Rapid review, usually within 72 hours of a completed application

  • Direct payment to a third‑party provider on your behalf

  • Designed to stabilize, not subsidize long‑term living expenses

If a single payment can meaningfully reduce risk or prevent loss of stability, we’ll do our best to help.

What Microgrants May Help With:

Housing & Utilities

To prevent loss of housing or essential services

Microgrants may assist with:

  • One‑time rent or mortgage payments

  • Utility bills to prevent shutoff (electric, gas, water)

Transportation for Medical Care

To access urgent or ongoing treatment related to a bleeding disorder

Microgrants may help cover:

  • Gas cards or travel vouchers

  • Bus, train, or rideshare costs

  • Mileage‑based travel related to treatment

  • Transportation to medical or mental health appointments when distance is a barrier

Note: Transportation must be directly related to accessing care or treatment.

Medical Travel & Emergency Lodging

When treatment requires families to be away from home

Microgrants may help with short‑term lodging when:

  • A family must travel a significant distance to a hospital or hemophilia treatment center

  • Local lodging options (e.g., Ronald McDonald House) are unavailable, full, or not applicable

  • Lodging is required for treatment, infusion training, surgery, or crisis‑level care

  • Safety or medical necessity makes returning home impractical during care

Note: Lodging support is time‑limited, medical‑related, and paid directly to the lodging provider.

Childcare & Family Support

During acute medical or mental health emergencies

Microgrants may help cover:

  • Short‑term childcare so a parent can attend treatment

  • Temporary care during hospitalization or crisis stabilization

Note: Assistance is limited to short, defined periods tied to the emergency.

Mental Health Crisis Support

HemoWish does not provide counseling or therapy services directly. However, microgrants may help with crisis‑related expenses such as:

  • Transportation to urgent mental health appointments

  • Short‑term lodging when safety is an immediate concern

  • Copays for newly prescribed medications related to stabilization

  • Temporary childcare during a mental health emergency

  • Limited payment for a small number of counseling sessions directly tied to crisis stabilization*

*HemoWish does not provide ongoing therapy or long‑term mental health funding.

What We Don’t Cover

  • Ongoing or long‑term expenses

  • General cost‑of‑living support (groceries, storage units, monthly gas, etc.)

  • Medical copays, prescriptions, or supplies*

  • Housing placements that are unsafe, overcrowded, or not appropriate for the household size

  • Cash payments to individuals

*For medical assistance, we encourage families to explore:

Who Can Apply

You may apply if:

  • You or a dependent in your household is affected by a bleeding disorder, and

  • You are experiencing urgent financial hardship that:

    • Is related to a bleeding disorder crisis, or

    • Places treatment, medical care, or household stability at immediate risk

Applications are reviewed case‑by‑case with compassion and care.

A Note About Our Approach

HemoWish focuses on rapid, meaningful intervention when a crisis can be stabilized with short‑term help.

There are times when a family’s needs extend beyond what a microgrant can safely or effectively address. In those cases, we may be unable to provide financial assistance, not due to a lack of care, but because we don’t want to offer help that could unintentionally cause harm or add instability.

❤️ Why It Matters

Large national programs often have waitlists, restrictions, or complex requirements. HemoWish exists to be a nimble, compassionate bridge, meeting families where they are, without judgment, during the moments when help matters most.

HemoWish recognizes that mental health crises often accompany the lived realities of bleeding disorders, and steps in to help cover related expenses when traditional assistance programs fall short.

We see the emotional and financial weight that bleeding disorders place on families, and we are committed to responding with clarity, care, and integrity.
